Random Tidbits of the Week

M o n d a y

I stay in my pajamas until around 2pm when I switch to yoga pants so that can count as getting dressed for the day.

Feeling inspired by my yoga pants, I put on kids yoga (Frozen themed!) from YouTube and Cambry does all the poses.

In the evening Lainey is super fussy and continues to cry while I put her in her high chair for dinner. While fussing she puts her hands together in prayer. I say "oh you want to pray? You can pray for your attitude." Cambry immediately volunteers, "I'll pray for my sister's attitude! Dear God, please help my sister's attitude...".

As soon as everyone wakes up the morning rush to get ready for school drop off and Divine Design begins. Yay for Divine Design!

It's a beautiful day. Lainey likes to lay down in the grass. What a hippie.

Colton has his 4 month check. Things look good. Poor little buddy has to get shots. Apparently shots make him fussy and uncomfortable because that night he wakes up approximately 73 times. Then he smiles at me in the morning like What mom? Aren't you happy to see me?

Need groceries. Especially bananas. Always bananas. We go through 3-4 per day and often more because I can't stop making muffins. Current favorites are blender banana oatmeal muffins and skinny double chocolate banana muffins.

Little ones play while Cambry is at school. I'm sorry about this Colton.

I take the little ones to the park to meet my friend Joan. Lainey loves to live on the wild side and looks for any dangerous playground ledge she can go off of. Now kids are asleep and I am thinking about going to sleep too!

Colton 4 Months

Little buddy you are 4 months old! I can't get enough of you. I love getting to know you more each day. Part of me wishes the baby stage could last forever. All I have to do is talk to you and your huge smile lights up your whole face. I love you bunches little boy.

Size: You weigh 16 lbs.1oz (62%), you are 26.5 in. (94%), and your head is 89%. You wear 3-6 or 6 month clothes and size 2 diaper. You have the best baby legs.

Eat: You eat every 2-3 hours during the day and usually twice at night. Sometimes more. We need to work on this.

Sleep: Things haven't been the best lately. You go down around 7:30 and sometimes will go until 2am but other times you wake before midnight. Then it seems to be every couple hours after the initial waking. And then from 4am onward you usually wake up even more. It's hard to say exactly...the nights are a blur. But that's ok you are totally worth it and you will sleep through the night eventually. We are experimenting with keeping your arms out of the swaddle since you have now learned to roll from back to tummy.

Likes/Dislikes: You like being held, being in motion (car or stroller or bjorn), baths, people talking to you, sucking on your hands and now you are beginning to put toys in your mouth when you are able to grab them.

Skills: You started laughing a couple weeks ago and it is adorable. You also make some funny sounds especially when you seem bored or a little unhappy and you voice it loudly but it's not a cry. You also just learned to roll over from back to tummy. You are getting more interested in objects and try to bring them to your mouth.

You are a sweet and adorable baby and I am so glad you are ours!

Valentine's Day Festivities

Happy Valentine's Day! I tried to get a cute picture of all 3 kids but no one was cooperating. So we did a girls and a boy picture and sent them to the grandparents and aunts and uncles. I love these little cuties.

I love looking back on past Valentine's pictures although I don't like how fast they are growing!!

Cambry's school had a Valentine's party and exchange on Thursday. Each kid brought a decorated box or bag for their valentines cards. Cambry loved decorating her box with hearts and jewels and was very proud of the final product.

I decorated heart cookies to give to her classmates and she picked out Frozen valentine cards to stick on them.

On Friday evening our church had their quarterly parents night out from 6-10 pm. When we pulled up in the parking lot at 5:57 pm and saw plenty of other parents already unloading their minivans, Greg pointed out that we can't make it to Sunday church on time but we can certainly get to PNO early hahaha.

We went to Houston Escape Room with several other other couples from youth. It was a lot of fun! It was very challenging but we escaped with 37 seconds left! Then we headed over to Black Walnut for dessert and coffee before picking up the kids.

Cambry was wired as usual after PNO. She was dancing and cracking up and being so silly. Lainey was joining in too. It was quite entertaining.

We did a big valentine's breakfast on Saturday morning instead of Sunday. I made homemade donuts with pink glaze.

We ran a few errands Saturday and mostly hung around the house. Sunday we went to church and did more of the same. It was a fun and relaxing weekend.

Back in the Swing of Things

January was a fairly slow month for us and it was nice. We didn't have a ton of stuff going on, especially on the weekends. I feel like we are settling in to our new normal. The last quarter of 2015 was super packed full of stuff from the time Colton was born. There were birthdays, holidays, and all kinds of events going on. We were adjusting to life with a newborn. We traveled a couple times and Greg took a good amount of vacation days.

Now we are back in the swing of things. I am back to meal planning and cooking. We were very blessed by friends and family with so many meals that I don't think I cooked at all until after the holidays. Now I am trying to figure out how to cook with the chaos of the little ones in the evening.

Speaking of evening chaos, here is a picture that shows the bath time chaos. Greg should be the picture since he is the one who does bath time, but he took the picture. I sometimes come in too and then it is 5 of us tripping over each other in our little bath room. But I sort of love the craziness.

Colton is now going down for bed around the same time as the girls so our evenings are becoming a little more predictable. He is not a huge fan of his crib though, and has been waking up a lot throughout the night.

The weather has been nice and warm lately so we have been spending more time outdoors. Cambry loves to ride her trike outside (she isn't quite interested in her bike yet) and the girls have enjoyed playing in the backyard.

Please note Cambry is wearing her easter dress and "mittens" (socks) on her hands.

A couple random things about Cambry that are so cute I don't want to forget:
She will say What is their Mattern name? instead of What is their last name?. That just makes me smile. She also says perfec, instead of perfect. It cracks me up how she will arrange her toys and declare "perfec!". She calls the ribbon bookmark in her Bible the "Bible leash". I love it.

Little Lainey is continuing to make progress and I can tell is understanding more and more. She continues to want to shower Colton with kisses. She is also very affectionate and likes to be held and hugged and kissed a lot. She will put her hands together during prayers before meals. She likes songs and tries to dance and do hand motions. She is trying really hard to run and it is adorable. She can get going pretty fast so I know one of these days she is going to do a full out run.

Colton is continuing to chunk up and he is so adorable. Poor thing always gets his naps interrupted by all the things we have to do but he is sweet about it. He is starting to grab toys and bring them to his mouth. He smiles and coos and laughs and it is the best thing ever.

Greg and I had to go to a training night at our church so we got a babysitter for the girls. We kept Colton with us because that is too many young kids to pile on a babysitter right now. We snuck in a dinner date before the training session at a new (to us) restaurant. It was fun!

Looking forward to another fun date night coming up soon when our church does parents night out!
